Zwift Tour de Boudicca — Stage 2: Circuit

The whole Revo B Team were tied for second from yesterday’s team time trial’s second-place results. My legs felt okay but with 8 laps of a hilly course, I didn’t know where I’d end up.

I had one ear listening to my teammates strategize and the other ear was listening to music from my laptop. I considered trying to figure out how to live stream my race but it seemed like a lot of work that I didn’t want to do for only my mother to tune in.

I got into the pen as soon as Zwift allowed and I was already in the 3rd row. I continued to warm-up as racers wished each other “good luck” and to “have fun.”

If you’ve never raced on Zwift, you won’t know that these races take off like a mountain bike or Cyclocross race. I once made the mistake thinking that these races started slow like in real like. Nope. No. Never. I’m usually doing 5.6 w/kg a few seconds before the start of the race because we start like bats out of hell. Then I hold it for a few minutes. I’ve usually burned three matches by then.

And I only have about three matches to burn during a race.

Each lap was about 2 miles long with a punchy AF hill at the end of every lap. Not to mention, the other hills peppered throughout the course. My average power over the 40 minutes of racing was 3.5 w/kg which is essentially my…
