Sonnet 18 Rewritten

Should I compare you to a winter’s day?

You’re more repulsive and harsh:

Gentle winds caress bodies as they decay

And winter permeates the thick marsh:

Sometimes, winter’s too cold to bear

And often, it’s not cold enough,

For even dreadful days despair

’Cause Mother Nature isn’t that tough -

But your eternal malevolence will never fade

Nor will the misfortune you bring upon the world

Not even Death wants you in his shade

You make his toes curl.

So long as summer fades and winter draws near

We’ll live in agony with nothing to fear
