“I wish to believe but belief is a graveyard”

Write a poem about a particular letter of the alphabet, or perhaps, the letters that form a short word.

B is the battlefield in the mind

biting the brain like bacteria

battling backward thoughts

B is the bodies buried beneath the ground

battered gravestones shoulder to shoulder

In the boneyard across the boulevard

B is big bellies blossoming,

foothills bellowing beyond

the battered bench,

the bottomless bite found

In the blindfolded battalion of Being

B is the bogeyman badgering

between brittle breaths

blocked airflow

using both lips

to say “Be.”
