The Comedian —

A curved ripe banana

once a pure and unadulterated yellow

now peppered with aging brown flecks

like sunspots on tops of hands

fashioned against

a crisp white wall

in the halls of Art Basel Miami

duct-taped in silver by Maurizio Cattelan

who said,

“what’s the point of our life?

Everything seems absurd

until we die

and then it makes sense.”

And the visitors watch

the death of the produce

the fragility of global trade

the gullibility

and excess of the art world

the gap between janitors

starving artists

and those who pay $120,000

for rotting food

and a couple of inches of duct tape
